Artist Statement

My art reflects my attempt to find, embrace, create, and admire beauty.  Like most people, I am heavily influenced by my past, by the things that have surrounded me, by the people that have been with me and the places that I have lived in and visited.  My works are abstract associations of color and shape with themes of nature and my urban environment.
I find the world to be chaotic and overwhelming at a community scale. But at a personal scale, within my home, with my family, with my friends, within the routine of my everyday life, it is calm, dependable, soothing. My art takes the noise of my environment and shows the beauty that exists nearby. My work is an expression of my fascination with the physical earth.  These images, while figments of my imagination, nevertheless evoke a memory of a place. This work is a record of Earth both literal and representational.
